Third Grade

Third grade at VAS is all about learning and fun!  Our third grade classes are taught by Alice Withers, (31 years teaching experience), and Brian Jacoby, (18 years teaching experience).

We "team teach" our curriculum so the students have both teachers each day.   Alice teaches Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Cursive Writing, and Health.  Brian teaches Math, Social Studies, and Science. Each teacher teaches P.E. and Art.  This team teaching approach allows the students to work in specific areas with the teacher well focused on the subject area.  This teaching approach has been very successful as many students and parents have expressed to us how pleased they are with our program.

Third grade students learn to use strategies to improve their reading and writing abilities.  They move from printing letters to connecting letters in handwriting.  We write letters to Pen-Pals, Presidents, and many businesses. Mathematics has a strong focus on multiplication and division basic facts.  Many Math concepts are taught also from place-value to measurement.  Students will study about The Native Americans, understanding maps and their use, plant life, The Solar System, and The Lunar Cycle

Join us and have fun learning!
