"Mocha with Mindy"
January 12, 2017, is a day that affects the Valley Alternative Magnet family because VAS saw a twelve-year tenure come to an end. Harriet Sherwin, one of the most experienced and helpful members of the VAS faculty retired. Harriet is the Senior Office Technician in Support Services but she is also more than that. She does various tasks that include working with parents, keeping attendance records and report cards, as well as working in the Health Office. Harriet’s skill set is especially impressive given the fact that Harriet is completely self-taught.
Harriet’s favorite event at VAS is Peace Day and she loves the vibes and sense of unity that it brings to VAS. Harriet also loves most the way that VAS is truly a family as well as the connections she’s made with parents, students, and co-workers. She loves the support and love VAS gives to each other, and how she learned about different cultures due to the diversity of VAS. Harriet will miss the people of VAS more than anything and be able to positively impact others while at work.
Valley Alternative Magnet thanks Harriet for absolutely everything she has done for our school. Her twelve years with us have been amazing. The VAS family will miss her and her bright smile in Support Services. We thank Harriet for everything she has done and wish for her a very happy retirement!

Professionally trained and experienced tutors will help students in Kindergarten through 12th grades, and adult learners, with math, science, English, writing, foreign language and social studies.
The student and tutor communicate in a virtual classroom with chat and two-way white boards.
You can use the service from Los Angeles Public Library Internet Access computers, or, with your LAPL library card, from your own computer.
